AWANA – What is it?
AWANA (derived from the first letters of “Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed” as taken from 2 Timothy 2:15) is an evangelical, nonprofit, Bible-based international ministry founded in 1950. Through local churches, AWANA provides a fully integrated evangelism and long-term discipleship program for pre-school to high school aged children and youth (however, at Quiet Dell Baptist Church, our Awana program is only from 3 years old to 6th grade).
AWANA is designed to be a fun, but Scripture-filled program that focuses on motivating your child to learn and memorize scripture. A typical Awana Club meeting includes structured games, handbook time, singing, Bible story/lesson, and award time.

Game Time
The purpose of the game time is not only to have fun in a friendly competitive way, but also to work on teamwork, sportsmanship, and trying your best in whatever you do. The clubbers will be divided into 4 color teams: red, yellow, blue & green. They will be on the same color team for a certain length of time. Each color can earn points by winning a game. Games are typically played around the Awana Circle, shown on the left. Weather permitting, game time is played outside. Otherwise, an indoor teambuilding or other activity will be done.
Handbook Time
During Handbook Time, the clubbers are separated by age – Sparkies (K – 2nd Gr.) and T&T (3rd – 6th grade). During this time, their leaders will help them work through their books. Hopefully, work has been done at home that will help your child quickly finish his/her sections. The goal is to complete at least one section per Awana Clubs meeting. If the clubber has finished all of the requirements of the section, the leader can sign off on that section.
Points are earned for each section that has been completed that contribute to your color team’s points in pursuit of victory at the end of the evening!

Song Time
Song Time is a fun time to sing children’s songs about God, Bible Stories, or worship songs to God. The Sparks and the T&T-ers are back together for this part of the meeting.
Council Time
Council Time is when one of the leaders will share a Bible Story or lesson to all of the clubbers.
Award Time
Award Time is an important part of the meeting as it rewards those who have worked hard. At certain points in the handbook, if your clubber has completed all of the sections to these points, they will receive awards that can be put on their vest/uniform. The type of award varies based on the age group of your clubber. When your child earns an award he/she will be called up in front of the group to receive the award.
At the very end of the meeting, the winning color team will be announced. All of the points for each team will be added up. Points can be obtained in the following ways:
1. Bringing your Awana Book
2. Bringing your Bible
3. Bringing a friend
4. Passing sections in your Handbook
5. Winning a game during gametime.
The color team with the most point wins and will get to choose a prize from the prize basket.
Final announcements are then made and a final prayer is said before the clubbers are ready for their parents to pick them up.
